Typical shady money grubbing vet.
They will quote you one price on the phone, and totally ignore your requests when you arrive.
Once you arrive they (acosta) will describe the tests and shots that your pet needs as if it is part of the wellness checkup. When you get to the front counter you will find that you owe 5x what you were expecting. Being in the military I have experienced this same process from vets around the country, I swear they are teaching them how to scam people in vet school!Having been duped twice before i got savvy(couldn't believe the on base vet did it to me too at tinker, afb!) I went in knowledgeable of this process. I declined all of the tests, I was there for 2 shots, nothing more. The vet tech was very evasive in her speech, eventually i had to ask her squarely "is this included in the wellness check" ... "well no". I reiterated that i was there for shots and nothing more so she brought me to an exam room. I reiterated that wanted the shots I requested at the price that I was quoted. She said "well if it is just the 2 shots then it should actually be less than you were quoted, I'll be right back".
She returns with the vet. Without so much as introducing herself the vet went straight for the "is your dog taking heart-worm medicine? because if not its a death sentence down here!" what a racket. I said I was not interested, and that I could get it elsewhere. She said that those aren't the same so I asked her what was the active ingredient, I said "ivermectin right?" She started visibly shaking when I told her that I was from the country and I knew where to get ivermectin for less than a 10th of the price since it is used for horses. She stammered and said "I've gone to school for 5 years.. and .. uhh.. those are different doses. then walked out of the room. No **** it's different doses, you get it as a liquid and dose it yourself instead of buying overpriced tablets from the fear mongering shady thieves like them. I learned my lesson and its worth when a vet in georgia refused to give me a perscription (which is required when asked for in georgia) because I was being charged $75 for 1/10th of a $18 bottle of ivermectin(4100% markup!) for my dog's mange.
Finally, guess what, the vet tech said that it would cost 20% more than I was quoted over the phone, just for the shots and wellness check "otherwise we can't help you". B.
S. Glad that they didn't get a cent from me.
Either avoid this vet or if you have to deal with the devil - be assertive - otherwise you will get robbed. Advise for any vet visit: If you get a quote make sure to get a copy by email and the name of the person at the front desk. Make sure they aren't adding on additional services and that they acknowledge the quote.
Very friendly, professional and caring. They show love and compassion for your pet. Highly recommended.
The majority of the staff are great. The ladies at the front desk are super unpleasant and lack the level of professionalism you would expect at most businesses.
I have had such a positive experience with Acosta. They do a great job of educating pet parents and showing love to each all animals that come in, no matter the size or condition. I have a big and little dog and we've experienced vets …
