What are the rumors about Banfield Pet Hospital?

"We've been taking our dogs there for over 10 years. They are top notch, from the Dr's to the receptionists. Always very friendly and patient with our questions. Highly recommended. We have the Wellness Plans for all of our dogs. The included vaccinations and twice a year comprehensive exams and teeth cleanings pay for themselves."

"The wellness plan is a terrible scam. The people who work there do their very best to make you sign up for a subscription that is not worth it. They will lie to you countless times by purposefully not being clear about what they are doing …"

"I am simply going to echo the sentiment of so many other poor reviews of this company, and then some. I recently lost my dog who was a 12 ½ year old Olde English Bulldog. I took him to Banfield years ago when he was very young. They of course talked me into purchasing their wellness plan. I have been consistently paying for that wellness plan for 10 years or more. The truth is, they have extremely inflated prices and pretend that there giving you some sort of deal by discounting their retail price since you have a wellness plan.  It's no deal and it's no discount. When I couldn't get into Banfield, just like other reviewers have complained about, I started seeing other Vets. I found that every time I went to a different veterinarian, I walked out the door paying far less than I paid for the same services and/or medication at Banfield, even with a wellness plan that was supposed to have been offering me discounts.  I've had appointments cancelled because Banfield was overbooked as well.
But what truly tops the cake is the fact that after my dog died, I was told that I needed to continue to pay the wellness plan until it renews in August.  Yes that's right, you did not read that incorrectly! My dog died in April. When I called to cancel my wellness plan, I was forced to call a different corporate number. Once I reached Banfield's corporate office, I was told that I have a "membership" that does not renew until August and that I must continue to pay the wellness plan through August. Even though I have a dog that is dead and can never be treated under the plan again. I was absolutely livid. I was told it was like a gym membership that has to be paid whether you attend or not. And I have read other reviews where people were sent to collections if they didn't pay. Believe me, I will tell everybody I know to run the other way from this HORRIBLE BUSINESS!"
